Cherry Cobarrubias, Marcos family spokesman, told The STAR yesterday the 71-year-old widow of President Ferdinand Marcos immediately headed home to her condominium unit at the Pacific Plaza in Makati after she was released from the Makati Medical Center at noon last Wednesday.
Before leaving the hospital, Marcos visited in their suites movie star Sharon Cuneta, who had just given birth to her second child, and former Philippine Airlines president Roman Cruz Jr., who was undergoing treatment for cancer.
Cobarrubias said some hair was shaved from the right portion of Marcoss head to enable doctors to bore a hole through her skull to drain the blood that had accumulated between her brain and skull.
"It is not true that (all) her hair was shaved," she said. "She only had a slight shave of hair in the right portion of her head where the blood clot were removed."
Cobarrubias said Marcos appeared to have gained "more peace of mind and became more beautiful" after her surgery.
"The doctors have advised Mrs. Marcos to rest," she said. "But her recovery was very fast. It took the surgeons only 30 minutes to operate."
Cobarrubias said Marcos was taken to the hospital last Dec.10 after she complained of dizziness and doctors found out that blood had accumulated inside the right side of her head.
Last month, Marcos injured herself after tripping in the bathroom in her condominium unit, causing her to hit the right side of her head on the floor, she added.
Cobarrubias said the former first lady did not mind the incident until she felt dizzy last Dec.10 while preparing for a trip to Ilocos Norte, where her son, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is governor.
Cobarrubias said that after going through the operation, Marcos ordered her to speed up the distribution of sacks of rice to her (Marcos) 35-man staff, including the security guards.
Cobarrubias said Marcos will present herself later before a press conference to show that she is still physically and mentally alert.
