Caloocan City Mayor Reynaldo Malonzo appealed yesterday to local residents to be vigilant in the wake of the series of bombing incidents and bomb threats in Metro Manila.
Malonzo made the appeal during the city's Peace and Order Council meeting held yesterday attended by some 120 representatives of the city's different business establishments.
During the meeting, Caloocan police chief Senior Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao Jr. said that they received intelligence reports indicating that the Monumento area may likely be the next bombing target. He said that based on the trend of bombing incidents, the northern area of Metro Manila is the only one that is spared of any explosion.
Earlier, an explosion rocked the Rizal Park in Manila followed by the bombing of Camp Crame in Quezon City. The Glorietta in Makati was bombed next followed by the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.
As a result of this, Malonzo has ordered the police to beef up the number of police assigned in the Monumento area, the city's premier commercial area, where the LRT Monumento station is also located.
Malonzo also ordered the police to double their police personnel in other public places such as malls, banks and schools.
