Condo unit of Malacañang exec in Cebu City strafed

- by Freeman News Service -

CEBU CITY - Gunmen harassed a Malacañang official assigned in the province by firing shots at his home in Guadalupe district here the other day.

Strafed was the condominium unit belonging to Paul Vincent Agana, son of former Regional Trial Court executive judge Priscilla Agana and a director of the Office of the President for Central Visayas.

Agana was sound asleep at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when his residential unit at the Atrium Townhomes on Andres Abellana street was fired at by still unknown gunmen.

"I am a sound sleeper. I did not hear any gunshots. It was my helper who did," Agana told The Freeman.

Agana, 40, reported the incident to the Guadalupe police only at 6:30 p.m.

A househelp of Agana said she was awakened by several gunshots but went back to sleep thinking they were not directed at her employer's unit.

It was only upon investigation by police that seven bullet holes were found on the wall of Agana's condominium unit.

Four of the bullet holes were found very near the room where Agana usually stays.

Agana said he has no idea who could have fired the shots, saying he has no enemies.

As director of the Office of the President for Central Visayas, Agana's responsibilities include community services and information drives for the Mamamayan Ayaw Sa Droga campaign of President Estrada.

He dismissed suspicions that the incident may be related to his role in the anti-drug campaign.

"I am involved only in information dissemination. I am not directly involved in the arrest of drug violators," Agana said.

He said he will see regional police director Tiburcio Fusilero today regarding the incident.

Agana's mother has expressed concern about the incident.

Agana said his mother, who is now with the Philippine Judicial Academy, holds office at the third floor of the condominium whenever she comes home.
