Women's center to rise in Kalibo
KALIBO, Aklan - The country's first comprehensive women's center outside Metro Manila will soon rise in this capital town.
Sen. Tessie Aquino Oreta, main proponent of the center, led its ground-breaking the other day. Assisting her were Aklan Gov. Joeben Miraflores and Rep. Allen Quimpo.
The first and so far the only comprehensive center for women is located in Malabon, the lady solon's hometown.
Oreta, chairperson of the Senate committee on youth, women and family relations, said the center is envisioned to serve as a one-stop establishment to cater to various needs of women here.
Oreta has allocated P7 million from her Organizational Development Fund for the construction of the building through the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW).
The building will house a day care center, a chapel, a library, livelihood and skills training center, and a counseling office.
"The center will be finished within six months from the release of the P7 million," Mira-flores said.
Oreta expressed confidence that the Kalibo comprehensive center for women would be an improvement over the Malabon center because of the strong bond between Quimpo and Miraflores.
