Smelling something stinking in the government's waste management contracts, Senator Ramon Revilla has filed a resolution urging the Senate to investigate a proposed P8 billion landfill project in Magallanes, Cavite.
Revilla filed Resolution 740 after a certain Dorcas Poloczek, president of Eurosian Company for Waste and Environment Service (ECWES), asked him to help ease increasing opposition from local residents to the project, led by Revilla's son, Cavite Governor Ramon Revilla Jr.
The Senate committee on environment and natural resources is questioning the project because it is in within a watershed. The proposed landfill is also bounded by two rivers which supplies fresh water to local communities.
"According to her, their company stands to lose more than P150 million which they have already spent if the project is scrapped," Revilla said, referring to Poloczek who, he said, approached him after a Senate committee hearing.
