CEBU - Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority general manager Alfonso Alerre has commended two airport policemen for honesty.

Policemen Emiliano Mercurio and Frederick Bonjoc returned a wallet containing about P200,000 in different currencies lost by German national Peter Arnold.

Arnold arrived from Hong Kong at about 12:30 p.m. last Tuesday and forgot his wallet inside the restroom at the airport's arrival area. An unidentified person who found the brown wallet approached the two policemen and gave it to them.

Mercurio and Bonjoc opened the wallet and found it contained $1,700, 2,000 Deutsche marks and several thousands of pesos, all amounting to about P200,000.

Alerre commended the honesty of the policeman and the unidentified person who found and surrendered the wallet.

"While there are policemen who misbehave in the airport, the honesty shown by these men has helped improve the image of airport personnel," he said.

Mercurio and Bonjoc coordinated with the Bureau of Immigration to identify the wallet's owner, and then informed Arnold that it had been found.

Mercurio told The Freeman that Arnold was happy that he got his money back.

He quoted Arnold as saying that he has had several experiences of losing his wallet in other airports but these were never returned to him.
