CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga - A Manila policeman is the leader of a robbery gang that victimizes passengers of air-conditioned buses plying the North Luzon Expressway, police said yesterday.
Police officials refuse to identify the police officer so as not to imperil the arrest of other members of the dreaded "Capistrano gang."
Police got hold of this information after the arrest of PO1 Lowel Capistrano and two others during a foiled holdup aboard a Saulog bus along the expressway's San Simon section last Saturday. Capistranno belongs to the Regional Mobile Group-3.
Senior Superintendent Dennis Nazaire, deputy director for operations of the Central Luzon police, said two passengers, who were wounded during the robbery, identified Lowel in a police lineup at the San Fernando police station.
He said two caliber .38 revolvers, a caliber. 45 pistol, a 9-mm. gun and a grenade were seized from Lowel and his two cohorts.
