The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to re-implement the Modified Bus Segregation Scheme (MBSS) next month along Edsa.
This developed as MMDA chairman Jejomar Binay expressed optimism that smooth flow of traffic will be experienced by private and public motorists with the revival of the MBSS in time for the re-opening of the northbound lanes of Edsa in Makati in first week of February.
Initially, Binay said the MMDA is meeting with officials of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) III to thresh out measures on how to make the MBSS convenient to MRT commuters.
The northbound lanes of Edsa from Magallanes to Ayala were closed to traffic last Nov. 30 last year to enable the MRT contractor to complete the project on time.
"These efforts were being made for a smoother traffic flow along Edsa. After the revival of the Modified Bus Segregation Scheme, more moves will be undertaken for this purpose," Binay said. The MBSS, introduced in Metro Manila in 1997, was designed to decongest bus loading and unloading areas along Edsa.
Under this scheme, buses are allowed to load and unload passengers only in designated color-coded bus stops.
