QC extends tax deadline to Jan. 31

Quezon City taxpayers have until the end of the month to settle their business taxes, fees and charges and renew their business permits and licenses without penalty.

The Quezon City Council approved last Thursday an ordinance extending the payment of business taxes and fees and renewal of business permits and licenses without surcharges and penalties from Jan. 20 to Jan. 31

The measure, introduced by majority floor leader Godofredo Liban II was meant to accommodate the volume of taxpayers queuing to the city hall trying to beat the Jan. 20 deadline.

Mayor Ismael Mathay Jr. called on city taxpayers to avail of the newly extended period of tax payment and avoid paying surcharges and penalties. Personnel of the city's Business Permits and Licensing Office will continue to observe extended working hours to accommodate those renewing and applying for new permits this year.

The city government, on order of Mathay, has also put up assessment and collection desks in four city malls to accommodate taxpayers and job applicants applying for occupational permits.

Manning the assessment and collection desks are personnel from the city's treasury department, health department, business permits and licensing office and the police.

The scheme, which ended on Jan. 20, was initiated by the city government in a bid to provide convenience to people transacting business with the city government.
