Barbers, son spearhead medical-dental mission

Sen. Robert Barbers and his son, Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, welcome the new millennium with a major medical and dental mission that will benefit thousands of indigent patients in their home-province of Suri-gao del Norte as well as in the Caraga region.

This year's medical-dental mission, the biggest since Sen. Barbers started it in 1992, will be participated in by over a hundred doctors, surgeons, dentists and other medical practitioners from the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California, USA, whom they personally invited during a visit there last year.

The medical team, which will travel to the Philippines at their own expense, will provide free diagnostic services, treatment and surgery, as well as dental services such as extraction and filling.

The medical practitioners, who will all be arriving from San Francisco, California, will also be bringing in medicines and various medical equipment, including an anesthesia machine, which they will donate to the Caraga Regional Hospital after the Jan. 15-22 mission.
