Philstar.com MUSIC Interviews: Barbie Almalbis and Ebe Dancel

MANILA, Philippines - Barbie Almalbis first burst into the public eye in 1997 as vocalist of Hungry Young Poets. They released a string of memorable tracks including Firewoman and Torpe before calling it quits. Barbie went on to form Barbie’s Cradle with Kakoi Legaspi and Wendell Ramos. The chemistry proved to be fruitful as even more great songs were created: All I Need, Just a Smile and the Tabing-Ilog theme song are just a few examples. Today Barbie Almalbis divides her time between her wonderful family (she has two adorable kids with husband Martin Honasan) and playing gigs as a solo artist.

Ebe Dancel was the vocalist of the immensely popular band Sugarfree before he decided to go solo. Sugarfree released five albums which included monster hits: Hari ng Sablay, Kwarto and Mariposa among other things. Ebe is still very much in demand as a solo artist, his schedule is packed with gigs as he continues to promote his debut solo album “Dalawang Mukha ng Pag-Ibig”.

They jammed recently at the Radio Republic HQ (yes, they sang "Tabing Ilog" and gave us goosebumps) and were gracious enough to answer some of our questions after. Check out the video below to find out their views on OPM, Radio Republic, and going solo.
