MANILA, Philippines – Known for being a comedienne, Ai-Ai delas Alas is out to prove she can also be a dramatic actress in “Ronda.”
One of the 10 films in the New Breed category of the 10th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, “Ronda,” directed by Nick Olanka, is about a policewoman on graveyard shift who deals with the problems of Manila as she handles her own personal issues.
“Acting in an indie is different from acting in a mainstream movie, malaki ang pagkaka-iba,” Ai-Ai said in an interview with the STAR entertainment editor Ricky Lo.
She added, “Sa mainstream, spoiled ka; marami kang PA (Production Assistant). Sa indie, mga-ilaw-ilaw namin, okey na kung ano lang ang nandyan. Sa mainstream, uma-anggulo ka sa kamera. Sa indie, sabi ni direk Nick, ‘Just go ahead, keep on walking even if the camera is behind you; basta, sige ka lang nang sige, natural ka lang’.”
The film also stars Cesar Montano, Julian Trono, Carlo Aquino, and Angeli Bayani.
The 10th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival runs from August 1 to 10.
