MANILA, Philippines- Fresh from winning the best actress award from the 37th Gawad Urian, Angeli stars in this true to life drama film by Francis Xavier E. Pasion.
Angeli Bayani plays the role of a mother who is looking for a missing child in the Cinemalaya new breed category entry “Bwaya.”
She gives life to Divina, a mother who's daughter Rowena (Jolina Salvado) was said to be attacked by a crocodile or “buwaya” in Filipino. Divina is off to search for the missing body of her daughter, only to find out that the “predator” may not really come from underwater.
“Bwaya” is Pasion's third entry for Cinemalaya. His first entry, “Jay,” won the Best Film ward in 2008, and gave Baron Geisler the best actor award. Pasion's 2010 entry, “Sampaguita, National Flower,” won the Special Jury Prize.
After the success of his directed primetime fantaserye “Dyesebel,” Pasion hopes for the best in his entry this year, especially now that the film festival is on its 10th year.
The film “Bwaya” also stars RS Francisco and Karl Medina.
The 10th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival runs from August 1 to 10.
