Imee not running for Manila mayor
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Imee Marcos confirmed yesterday that she is seeking reelection in the May 2025 midterm elections, dousing rumors that she is running for Manila mayor.
“Yes, I am up for reelection despite rumors that I am running for mayor of Manila and other places,” she said.
She said she has yet to decide if she would be part of the senatorial slate of President Marcos’ Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
“I still don’t know if I will be joining (the administration lineup),” she said. “I could see the slates of different political parties. I think there will be about 50 vying for Senate seats. So I’m confused.”
In many instances in the past, the senator opposed some of the President’s policies and proposed legislations, such as the ratification of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the housing of Afghans formerly employed by the United States.
The senator said she was merely expressing her opinions to improve the administration of the President.
Marcos said the May 2025 midterm elections is still far ahead.
“Politics in the Philippines is like basketball – there’s always the ‘last two minutes,’” she said.
