Eala outclasses Stojsavlevic at start of Toray Pan Pacific campaign
MANILA, Philippines -- Pure domination from Alex Eala.
Eala barged into the next round of the Toray Pan Pacific Tennis Open in Tokyo, Japan after simply obliterating Mika Stojsavlevic, 6-1, 6-2 Monday afternoon.
The Filipina hardly broke sweat as she needed just an hour and 15 minutes to win against her British opponent, ranked 411th in the world.
“I think it was super important today to be focused on every single point. Playing against Mika for the first time was a great experience and I'm sure we will meet many, many more times. I think she has a really good level and I'll see her many more times on tour,” Eala said after the match.
“But yeah, I think it was super important to be focused especially in the first round and try to keep the intensity up.”
Eala, seeded eighth in the WTA 500 tournament, started off hot, flexing her muscles en route to a 5-0 lead.
Stojsavlevic kept herself alive with a win in the sixth game, before the pride of the Philippines finished her off, 6-1.
Come the second set, Eala continued with her onslaught, going up 2-0.
However, her opponent put up more fight this time around, cutting the deficit, 1-2, and again, 2-3.
But Eala would not be denied, winning the next three games to take the victory.
Stovsavlevic punched in 24 winners against Eala’s eight, but she committed 41 unforced errors to her opponent’s 11.
Eala also forced the Brit tennister to commit 11 errors against just four for her.
The Filipina will now be taking on Talia Gibson in the next round of the WTA tournament.
The World No. 38 Gibson blasted Daria Kasatkina earlier in the day, 6-0, 7-5.
