MANILA, Philippines — Nigerian student-athlete Divine Adili’s parents have arrived in the Philippines, months after he and Rene Baterbonia drowned in Aurora, the Ateneo de Manila University said.

Adili’s parents will visit Ateneo, meet with the men’s basketball team and watch the Blue Eagles’ first two games in UAAP Season 89.

“As the team begins a season dedicated to the memory of Adili and Baterbonia, we are grateful that Divine’s parents can be here with the teammates, friends and community who shared an important part of his life,” Ateneo said.

Adili and Baterbonia drowned on June 8 during a training camp in Dipaculao, Aurora.

Ateneo and former Blue Eagles coach Tab Baldwin must pay over P4.9 million for violating work permit rules, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide have been recommended by the National Bureau of Investigation against Baldwin, six assistant coaches and a physical therapist.
