CEBU, Philippines — Fisherfolk in Cebu City continue receiving assistance as government programs provide healthcare coverage and financial support to coastal communities.

In sitio Millennium, Barangay Cogon Pardo, families were enrolled under the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) through a registration drive coordinated with the Office of the Bantay Dagat.

The activity covered 153 individuals from 36 families, giving them access to consultations, laboratory tests, medicines, and routine health screenings under PhilHealth’s enhanced primary care package.

City officials said the initiative supports Mayor Nestor Archival’s Smart, Sustainable, and Inclusive Cebu City 2035 vision, which prioritizes healthcare accessibility for underserved residents.

Meanwhile, fisherfolk assistance continued with the distribution of financial aid under the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program.

At least 48 beneficiaries from the city received P2,325 each during the activity held at the Cordova Sports Complex, facilitated by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VII (DA RFO 7) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), in partnership with the city government through the City Agriculture Department.

Beneficiaries said the support would help sustain their families’ daily needs and livelihood activities.

Officials emphasized that the program reflects the national government’s commitment to strengthening the welfare of farmers and fisherfolk, recognizing their vital role in food security and community development. (CEBU NEWS)
