MARAWI CITY, Philippines —  Broadcast journalist Ben Tulfo will run for senator in the 2025 midterm elections.

Tulfo, 69, announced his political plans during a visit in this city yesterday, saying he will run as an independent candidate.

It was a homecoming of sort for Tulfo, who was born in this city, considered as a “place of destination and purpose” back at the time when it was known as Dansalan town.

“I was born here in Marawi at Camp Keithley. The blood of a warrior runs through my veins. I am not deep fake. I am authentic,” Tulfo said.

At the time of his birth, his father was chief of the 75th Philippine Constabulary Company stationed at Camp Keithly, a former military base of the United States.

During the visit, Marawi Mayor Majul Gandamra conferred on Tulfo the “Honorable Son of Marawi” citation.

“You have consistently offered your support and assistance to every one, including members of the Islamic community, through most of your career regardless of your differing faith,” Gandamra told Tulfo during an event at the Marawi City Gymnasium.

Known as “Bitag,” Tulfo has jumped from outside of the Magic 12 to No. 2 in the latest OCTA Research senatorial survey.

Having gained 57 percent in the survey, Tulfo is statistically tied at No. 1 with his younger brother,  ACT-CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo with 60 percent.

Tulfo and his siblings Ramon, Raffy and Erwin are known hard-hitting commentators and for helping people in need.
