As the Philippine entertainment industry continues to evolve, it welcomes new faces and fresh perspectives.

Among the recent developments is the adaptation of the popular South Korean series, “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?,” under the collaborative efforts of VIU Philippines and ABS-CBN’s Dreamscape Entertainment.

The adaptation brings the beloved story to Philippine audiences, infusing it with local flavor and talent.

Amid this backdrop emerges talents like Kim Wok Shik, a rising star whose journey mirrors the ever dynamic spirit of the industry. From his serendipitous discovery to his pivotal role as the voice behind the original soundtrack (OST) To Be With You of “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?,” Wok Shik’s story is a fusion of talent, opportunity, and perseverance.

A chance encounter during his university years led to a life-changing moment for Wok Shik. Desperate to fulfill his sister’s dream of attending actress Park Shin Hye’s fan meet, he reached out to the ticketing company and secured tickets at a discounted rate, sacrificing his savings in the process. Such an act of kindness paved the way for future opportunities in the entertainment industry.

“Securing those tickets for my sister was a turning point for me. It showed me that sometimes, taking a chance and reaching out can lead to unexpected blessings in life,” said Wok Shik.

With six K-drama series under his belt to date, including extra roles, Wok Shik views each opportunity as a stepping stone towards his dreams. Despite facing challenges, he remains optimistic about the impact of his roles in his career trajectory.

“Every role I’ve taken has taught me something valuable. Whether big or small, each experience has shaped me as an actor and brought me closer to my goals,” shared he.

Among his notable appearances are in the series like “Love Like a K-Drama” on Netflix and “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?,” where he showcased promising versatility and dedication to his craft.

In terms of his love for music, Wok Shik has always found solace in jazz and enjoyed acoustic melodies ever since his childhood days. But his ultimate goal is to provide assistance to talented individuals in need of education opportunities, while also pursuing a successful acting career.

“Music has always been my sanctuary. It’s where I find solace and express myself freely. I hope to use my platform to support others who share my passion for music and education,” said Wok Shik.

The opportunity to sing the OST To Be With You came unexpectedly. After expressing enthusiasm for a song presented by his manager, Kathleen Dy-Go, Wok Shik’s recording caught the attention of Garlic Garcia from VIU, leading to its inclusion in the series’ soundtrack.

“Recording (it) was a dream come true. I poured my heart and soul into the song, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a beloved series,” shared Wok Shik.

Aside from that, he had the opportunity to work alongside Pinoy actors like Paulo Avelino and Kim Chiu and considered it a rewarding experience. Their hospitality and support have left a lasting impression on him, and he looks forward to future collaborations.

“Paulo and Kim have been incredible mentors to me. Their guidance and encouragement have been invaluable, and I hope to collaborate with them again in the future,” said Wok Shik.

While acting allows him to embody diverse characters, music offers Wok Shik the freedom to express himself authentically. Nevertheless, even with the limitations of scripts, he said he finds joy and fulfillment in both artistic pursuits.

“Acting allows me to step into someone else’s shoes, while singing allows me to be myself. Both avenues of expression bring me joy and fulfillment, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to pursue both,” said he.

Wok Shik also credited his parents for instilling in him the value of exploration and education. Their support inspired him to pursue endeavors that not only bring him happiness but also make meaningful contributions to other people.

“My parents taught me the importance of exploring new opportunities and always striving for excellence. Their guidance has shaped me into the person I am today, and I’m determined to make them proud,” said Wok Shik.

Wok Shik’s journey can serve as a reminder that success is often born from perseverance, kindness, and a willingness to seize opportunities when they arise. As he also explores the Philippine entertainment industry, his story can somehow inspire other aspiring artists to also chase their dreams relentlessly, knowing that every step forward will bring them closer to their goals.

Wok Shik has released To Be With You under Universal Records Philippines for the local adaptation of “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?.”
