For the first time, singer-actress Aubrey Caraan forayed into songwriting where she found it “hard at first” but she “eventually was able to enjoy the process.”
She co-wrote the R&B-pop track Sana with Sean Cedro which is about “wishful love.” “The song’s lyrics (are) basically like a dream that you want to become a reality, and it’s also about hope,” she expressed in a virtual call.
“Mahirap pala kung ilalagay mo sa lyrics yung nararamdaman mo. Hindi pala dapat siya literal. Dapat may meaning, may puso, may bigat (ang mga lyrics). I found that part difficult but I learned (to do it) eventually. And once we knew the direction of where the song wanted to go, it became a smoother writing process for me,” she said on the basics of lyric-writing and felt proud that she is singing her own song.
Aubrey, who admitted that she never had a boyfriend, hopes that she would find the right guy for her. “Ang ‘sana’ ko po talaga and yun yung prayers ko sana makahanap ako ng guy na siguro magiging boyfriend. ‘Sana’ mabait siya, very understanding, buong-buo, yun po yung sana ko,” she told The STAR when queried about her biggest “sana” when it comes to love.
In life in general, she has three goals that she hopes to achieve. First is to be successful in her showbiz career. “I’ve been here (in the industry) for quite a while. Kasi ito talaga yung pangarap ko so sana maging successful ako dito,” she shared.
Aubrey’s second wish is to provide for her family’s needs and third is for her loved ones to stay happy, safe and healthy. Her greatest dream in her singing career is to perform in front of a huge audience in a concert and share the stage with her idol Sarah Geronimo.
The former Pop Girl member also aspires to release more songs this year. “Before po kasi nahirapan din ako makakuha ng mga projects po pagdating sa music. Mas madalas po talaga sa acting. So sabi ko kailangan ko talaga bumalik sa music because this is where I started and people have forgotten that I’m also a singer.”
In terms of her acting career, she is optimistic that she will get to have more acting opportunities and land a lead role. She would also like to try other genres, like action and horror, other than romantic-comedy. Aubrey was formerly paired with Marco Gallo in Vivamax’s Ang Manananggal na Nahahati Ang Puso.
When asked about her personal realization at this point in her showbiz journey, Aubrey said she learned how to stay grounded. “What I’ve learned from experience also, sabi din po sa akin ng mga co-artists ko kahit mga staff and bosses, ang laging bilin nila sa akin is to always stay humble and kind to everyone.”
She added, “Parang tayo-tayo lang din yung magkakatrabaho, magkikita kita rin tayo at some point so ang lagi po nilang bilin sa akin, kailangan laging mabait, maging humble sa lahat kasi sila sila din yung tutulong sa’yo.”
The now 24-year-old Aubrey began her showbiz career when she was 10. She previously joined ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Dream Academy Little Dreamer and ranked fourth place. She was with Star Magic for two years and transferred to Viva Artists Agency later on.
She was launched as part of the girl group Pop Girls when she was around 13. After that, she was given the opportunity to act and has appeared in Tropang Torpe, Indak, Squad Goals and Kalye Kweens.
