Sheryn Regis may have been around the music industry for over a decade now but she said there’s still more she can offer despite the live music scene being “silenced” by the pandemic.
Sheryn said she will treat the public to the musical spectacle Love United, on Oct. 23, to be streamed on KTX. ph, iWantTFC and TFC IPTV.
For someone who is used to doing live performances, the Cebuana singer told The STAR that she prepared mentally, emotionally and physically for the virtual concert.
“So, I really had to sleep, I practiced my songs and then balancing everything from promotion to doing other things. There is a lot to go through before the concert but I thought that we really have to be positive because I want to give everything. This is my first-ever digital concert so I want to give my best,” added Sheryn, who felt that it is just but right to give her all since not many artists are blessed to hold concerts during this time.
The chanteuse, dubbed as the Crystal Voice of Asia, will also perform for the first time with young singers. Her guests include the TNT Boys, composed of Mackie Empuerto, Francis Concepcion and Keifer Sanchez; viral sensation EZ Mil; Filipino pop-rapper H-Bom; Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist Froilan Canlas; and seven-year-old child singing prodigy from the US Kaela Francheska.
“I was really thinking how I could sing songs with collabs, like my guest performers. You know, the music and the singers here in the Philippines have truly evolved. Ang gagaling ng mga bagong singers and composers. And with my guests, gusto kong maka-level because they may have something that I need to adjust to. I really prepared for that,” shared Sheryn.
The singer, who previously went on a temporary break due to a health issue, returned to the music scene only last year with the songs Tulad ng Dati and Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw.
Apart from trying to keep up with new music artists, Sheryn finds performing without an audience challenging.
“Iba talaga ‘yung adjustment kasi ang hirap na wala akong audience na nakikita sa mata, wala akong kinakantahan at walang palakpak na maririnig. All I’m seeing are lights from the cameras and production people who are in PPEs that’s why I felt like I was inside the operating room,” she amusingly said.
Good thing, director Alco Gutierrez would always remind Sheryn to imagine that she is singing right in front of many people. The concert was already taped live at the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar events place in Quezon City.
And who can forget Sheryn’s rendition of the Wendy Moten original Come in Out of the Rain? It’s been 17 years since she performed it as a contest piece in the grand finals of Star in a Million, where she finished second place to Erik Santos.
According to Sheryn, Come in Out of the Rain will be part of her repertoire yet it will be the first time for the viewers to hear her singing it differently.
Sheryn is also set to express her love for her roots by including Cebuano songs in the lineup. “Yes, nilagyan ko talaga ng Bisaya na parte because I’m just so proud (of my hometown). Dili dapat mawagtang ang pagka-Bisaya ni Sheryn Regis.”
The concert, Sheryn noted, is a timely event since it will present to the audience songs that express love, hope and healing. “Digitally, I will take you to a concert stage na pang Araneta level where you can see me and my guests on the stage complete with lights, colors in the background and bands.”
(Love United is presented by ABS-CBN and produced by MAK Entertainment. Tickets for the concert are now available online for P899, regular and P1,499, VIP with access to digital after-party. Streaming on Oct. 23 will start at 8 p.m. PhST and it will have a re-run the next day, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m. PhST.)
