Vice Ganda burned out, depressed like Sarah Geronimo

MANILA, Philippines — In spite having blockbuster movies, high-rating shows, and tons of followers and money that come with it, Kapamilya host and actor Vice Ganda revealed he also suffered depression and can relate to Sarah Geronimo’s feelings.

In a previous interview with the press published in Boy Abunda’s column for Pilipino Star Ngayon, the “Unkabogable Star” said he was deeply affected by Sarah’s problem.

“I actually experienced the same thing recently. I underwent depression,” he shared.

“Ba’t ganun, andami kong pera, blockbuster mga pelikula ko, hit ang mga shows ko… ba’t hindi ako masaya?” the “It’s Showtime” host reportedly lamented.

Vice also reportedly said that he was so “burned out” that he asked the ABS-CBN management to lessen his shows, to the point that he did not want to do a film fest entry.

“Nagpaalam nga ako sa management. Tinanong ko kung puwede bang hindi na ako mag-film fest, puwede bang magbawas ako ng show.”

He felt so low that he was having anxiety attacks and was unable to sleep well, so he had to see a psychiatrist.

In his desperation, Vice sought advice from Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez. The celebrity couple then told him that “The mind is the playground of the devil.”

Because of the couple’s advice, Vice was able to recover from depression.

“Feeling ko, ang devil, pinaglaruan yung utak ko para malungkot ako at hindi ako makapagpatawa. Para isipin kong pagod na ako at umayaw na ako, para isipin kong hindi ako blessed at hindi ako masaya, para malungkot ako,” he said.

"Ngayong alam ko nang pinagti-tripan ako nitong devil, hindi ko ito papayagan. Every day, naka-mind set ako – I have to be happy, I embrace my happiness and my blessings, and I have to serve my purpose. Kaya every day sa 'Showtime,' nagpapatawa ako dahil iyon ang purpose ko, at ‘yon ang masaya akong ginagawa ko," he added.
