MANILA, Philippines — After the contestants drew lots, Filipina singer KZ Tandingan became the first contender to perform in episode eight of China’s Hunan TV international singing contest, “Singer 2018.”

Besides nailing Sheryl Crow’s “Real Gone” with her powerful vocals, KZ wowed the studio audience with her electric guitar playing skills, making her finish fifth for the week, following an all-Chinese lineup on the top four.

KZ’s idol, British pop star Jessie J, begged off from the performances for the week, citing a medical emergency.

On YouTube, “spoilers” hinted that Tandingan might be eliminated on the show’s episode nine, which remains to be seen as it is yet to be aired next Friday.
