Alicia Vikander wins supporting actress Oscar

LOS ANGELES — Alicia Vikander is the winner of the best supporting actress Academy Award for her portrayal of the wife of an artist who realizes he is transgender.

Vikander is a first-time nominee for her role in "The Danish Girl" opposite actor Eddie Redmayne.

Redmayne is nominated for the best actor award, which will be announced later Sunday.

The actress thanked Redmayne, calling him the best acting partner.
