MANILA, Philippines – Sam Smith is breaking hearts again as he released his newest single “Drowning Shadows.”
The single was supposed to be part of his “In the Lonely Hour” album but “something didn’t happened right in the production,” he said. “We're going through different versions of it and we're going through production making it big and stuff and something didn’t work.”
According to Smith, the song reflects the “genuine choice” he has to make at one point in his life.
“There’s a crossroads, and there was one road will lead to where I used to hang out to and one road leads home,” he recalled. “I’m in such a lonely, sad place where I was writing this album that sometimes I eventually had to choose, the lyrics is, ‘do I go home to nothing or stay out for more.’”
“That was a genuine choice for me,” he added. “I used to go up on myself and drink and try find love or I just go home and chill. That’s what the song is about. It’s about me, that decision.”
Smith’s latest single will be part of the upcoming deluxe edition of his "In the Lonely Hour" album, which will be released on Friday in the Philippines.
The British singer-songwriter will have a concert here in Manila on November 21 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
