Hackers apologize for Maine's Twitter account breach

MANILA, Philippines — Hacking collective Anonymous Philippines apologized for hacking into the Twitter account of 'Eat Bulaga" mainstay Maine Mendoza.

Anonymous claimed responsibility for breaking into the social media account of Maine on Tuesday morning.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Anonymous Philippines addressed fans of Maine and apologized for the hacking.

"We just wanted to send a message to the public, and using Maine's account is one of the easiest way we could find," the group said in its Facebook post.

In a later Facebook post, Anonymous Philippines similarly apologized to fans of Maine and Alden Richards for the hacking.

"Hindi ito ang tamang panahon para pagtalunan kung bakit namin ginawa ang isang bagay. Siguro ang dapat nyong isipin e kung ano yung nagtulak sa amin para gawin yun," it said.

Anonymous Philippine has been tagged in some of the biggest cyber attacks in the country.

In 2014, it claimed responsibility for hacking the website of the National Telecommunications Commission, claiming that it was one with Filipinos suffering from the slow Internet speed in the country.

It also claimed responsibility for hacking 195 Chinese websites. The tweets posted by the hackers of Maine's Twitter account have been deleted from the page.
