Jennylyn Mercado has recently proven her prowess as an actress after being named as the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Actress. Prior to this, her remarkable portrayal of three different roles in the GMA primetime series Rhodora X was also one of her biggest accomplishments last year.
Jennylyn is a living proof that everybody deserves a second chance. And now, with another remarkable role that will capture the hearts of those who lost a chance in life but still strive to recover, she is ready to share to the world the beauty of second chances.
Playing the role of Lyra Bermudez in the Kapuso primetime show Second Chances, her story depicts the life of a wife and a mother who lost her family in a tragic incident. How she relates to this character, and from where she gets the inspiration in portraying the role, she shares through her most treasured things and people in her life.

Most treasured person:
Jennylyn has conquered a lot of challenges in life and who else would keep her strong and inspire her to become the best that she can be? She firmly declares, “My son, Alex Jazz.”
What is your most memorable experience with him?
Despite her busy schedule, Jennylyn makes sure that she is able to spend quality time with her son. “Siguro yung nag-Hong Kong kami kasi doon ko talaga siya nakitang nag- enjoy. Syempre Disneyland, yung mga kids ‘di ba, parang yun na yung pinakarurok ng happiness nila.
How do you make him feel special?
Jennylyn believes that time should not be an excuse in showing affection to the people you value the most. She shares, “Everyday, I kiss and hug him. I play with him. More on showing affection talaga. Lalo na sa trabaho ko, na madalas busy,as much as possible, kapag may pagkakataon, gagawin ko ‘yun.”
Most treasured thing:
A sophisticated and elegant woman, Jennylyn admits to have a thing for wristwatches. She goes out of her way to purchase whatever it is that catches her eye, wherever it may come from. “Yung mga relo ko. Collector’s items kasi,” she discloses.
Most treasured place/travel destination:
A quite different world is what Jennylyn wants to share with his son. She explains, “It’s a different world sa ilalim ng dagat and gusto kong makasama si Jazz doon pag lumaki na siya. At sana, kahit medyo binata na siya, parang barkada lang kaming dalawa. ‘Yung mga ganyang trip, gusto ko kasama ko siya.”
Most treasured moment:
When the mother in her speaks, Jennylyn captures the essence of being a woman. Nothing but her son can make her life any more meaningful. The birth of her child gave light to all the things that were once kept in shadows. When asked what her most treasured moment is, she simply said, “Nung ipinanganak ko si Jazz. Parang cliché lang kapag sinasabi nilang masarap yung pakiramdam after mong manganak. Pero totoo yun, once na nakita mo na siya, nakalong mo na siya, the feeling is very surreal.”
Most treasured role and why:
Jennylyn values growth and improvement, and she believes that her roles in Rhodora X helped her a lot as an actress. She claims that, “Since nag-enjoy nga ako sa Rhodora X, sina Rowena, Roxanne and Rhodora ang favorite ko. Nag-enjoy talaga ako dun eh. Iba yung level nun para sakin. I learned a lot as an actress.”
What is your most treasured moment as a Kapuso artist?
A loyal Kapuso all throughout her showbiz career, Jennylyn considers her most treasured moment as a Kapuso artist her getting good projects that enables her to reach her goals as an actress. “Yung mabigyan ako ng chance na gumawa ng magagandang soap, TV series, thankful ako dun. Kasi dahil sa mga yun, kaya lalo pa akong ginaganahan na mag-improve. Siyempre, gaya ng sabi ko, pagna-cha-challenge ako, dun ako nag-e-enjoy.”
What treasure do you want to share with your followers?
Above anything else, Jennylyn wishes for everyone “happiness.” “I want to share happiness, na naibibigay namin through the shows at kung paano namin sila na-e-entertain sa mga project na ginagawa namin,” she says.
