MANILA, Philippines - Two-time Grammy awardee Diane Schuur (photo) will be playing for one-night only at the Tower Club in the Philamlife Building in Makati on Feb. 28.
Diane or Deedles was born blind but she was blessed with perfect pitch and a three-and-a-half octave vocal range. The singer has a rich, resonant vocal style, which she has applied to great effect on both the standards and to original songs.
Her career started at age nine with her first professional gigs, including one at the local Holiday Inn. While still a student in Washington State School for the Blind, she was riveting audiences with original material. She made her debut in the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1975 where jazz great, Stan Getz, heard her sing and became one of her fans. He subsequently took her under his wing as her mentor.
She has collaborated and performed with Stan Getz, the Count Basie Orchestra, BB King, Jose Feliciano, Barry Manilow, Maynard Ferguson, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams and Quincy Jones, among many others. As a result, she has had numerous No. 1 Billboard recordings and has performed in prestigious venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Centre and the White House. She has also had five Grammy nominations with two Grammy wins.
This will be an intimate, one-and-a-half hour show with Diane accompanying herself on the piano backed up by a rhythm section.
Price is P5,000 inclusive of show, dinner and two glasses of wine.
