MANILA, Philippines - The 13 lovely candidates vying for the Miss Aviation Philippines 2015 crown met the press recently at the Air Ads Aviation Center in Pasay City.
The title was conferred in the ’50s and the ’70s, with showbiz and modeling luminaries Lotis Key and Jojie Felix Velarde as among those who wore the crown.
This year, the title bears more meaning as the candidates were chosen from different aviation and tourism sectors. “We are very proud to present 13 young women who are equally beautiful, intelligent and knowledgeable in their field of work. From avionics technicians to flight cabin crew, to flight dispatchers, aeronautical engineers, and aviation students, these ladies will be future leaders in the industry, and young people can look up to them for inspiration,” said pageant director Morena Carla Cabrera Quimpo.
Supporting the advocacy is the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF), one of Asia’s longest-running sports aviation events that gathers aviators from the local and international scenes.
This year’s finalists are Blessilda Joy Lazaleta, Cleo Margaret Brown, Leihcel Galvez, Christabelle Angeles, Lyra Velchez, Mica Angela Angeles, Kathlyn Almeda, Lizl Louise Camille Resoles, Jamil Joy Tabayoyong, Dayna Lyn dela Vega, Phieliz Djyn Mari, Elaine Elago and Angelic Magat.
The competition’s mission is to empower women in the aviation industry; to inspire the youth to pursue a career in aviation; and to find a fitting ambassador of goodwill to help bring the industry together towards safer, more efficient and service-oriented practices.
The coronation night will be held tomorrow, Feb. 10, 7 p.m. at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Peninsula Manila. The winners will make their first public appearance at the Weekend of Everything that Flies in Clark, Pampanga, from Feb. 12 to 15.
The event is supported by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) headed by director general Lt. Gen. William Hotchkiss (Ret.); Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) led by president and CEO Arnel Casanova; and the Civil Aviation Board (CAB) headed by executive director Carmelo Arcillia, together with the Civil Aeronautics Board of the Philippines (CABP) and Clark International Airport (CIA).
The pageant is presented by Rudy Project, YKL Fujifilm, iWhite, Nisce Skin N’ Face, Wings Institute of Global Career and Island Rose.
