4 Phl films in int’l fests; Bogota fetes Jeturian

MANILA, Philippines - Four Filipino films are competing in various international film festivals in Europe, from left:

 Zigcarlo Dulay’s M (A Mother’s Maiden Name), starring Zsa Zsa Padilla, Sue Prado, Micko Laurente and Gloria Sevilla, in competition at the 31st Bogota International Film Festival in Bogota, Oct. 22 to 30 (produced by Joji Alonso, the film is included in the Filipino Showcase in Hawaii this month);

 Joel Lamangan’s Hustisya (starring Nora Aunor), produced by Romnick Sarmenta and his wife Harlene Bautista, in Warsaw, Poland, Oct. 10 to 19;

 Jason Paul Laxamana’s Magkakabaung (starring Allen Dizon, who won Best Actor at the Harlem Filmfest), at the 3rd Hanoi International Film Festival, Nov. 23 to 27, produced by Dennis Evangelista; and

 Eduardo Roy Jr.’s Quick Change (starring Mimi Juareza, Junjun Quintana and Miggs Cuaderno), produced by Almond Deria at the Five Flavors Film Festival in Warsaw, Poland, Nov. 2 to 10.

Meanwhile, the Bogota International Film Festival will have a retrospective on the films of director Jeffrey Jeturian (rightmost), including Pila Balde (1999), Tuhog (2000), Bisperas (2011) and Ekstra (2013), which have all been shown at the BIF. — CELSO DE GUZMAN CAPARAS
