MANILA, Philippines - GMA News and Public Affairs posted back-to-back victories with major citations in the ninth COMGUILD Awards and in a survey conducted by the Philippine Public Safety and Order Support Group recently.
Leading the roster of Kapuso awardees is the network’s flagship primetime newscast 24 Oras, which was named as Best News Program. This is already 24 Oras’ fourth consecutive citation, one award shy from being included into COMGUILD’s Hall of Fame. 24 Oras is bannered by Mel Tiangco and Mike Enriquez.
Jessica Soho, likewise, received her third Most Outstanding Female News Presenter award. Aside from GMA News TV’s nightly newscast State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, she also hosts the public affairs programs Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho on GMA 7 and Brigada on GMA News TV.
Kara David, meanwhile, was named as Best Female Field Reporter for the third consecutive year. David headlines the lifestyle show Powerhouse and is also one of the hosts of documentary program I-Witness on GMA 7. On GMA News TV, she co-anchors the morning news program News to Go.
Similar to 24 Oras, both Soho and David are also candidates to be part of the roster of COMGUILD Hall of Fame winners, which already includes Mel Tiangco (Most Outstanding News Presenter) and Jiggy Manicad (Best Male Field Reporter).
Completing the Kapuso network’s list of COMGUILD awardees this year is Vic Sotto, who was named as Most Popular Television Personality. Sotto is seen daily in Eat, Bulaga! and Vampire ang Daddy Ko, both on GMA 7.
GMA News and Public Affairs personalities and its IMReady public service campaign topped the survey conducted by the Philippine Public Safety and Order Support Group as part of its fifth anniversary celebration and as culmination of the Disaster Preparedness Month.
GMA News’ Mike Enriquez was recognized as Most Appreciated Crime Prevention TV Program Host in the Country for Imbestigador, which airs Saturdays on GMA 7.
The network’s resident meteorologist, Nathaniel Cruz was recognized as Most Understood and Appreciated TV Weather Presenter/Forecaster in the Country.
GMA News’ IMReady public service campaign, on the other hand, was named as the Most Convincing TV Network Public Service Information Campaign in the Country. Aside from its informative disaster preparedness plugs on television, IMReady further extended its reach when it launched early this year its own portal (www.imready.ph) and its free downloadable mobile app for Android and Apple devices.
The network’s news website, GMA News Online, received the Most Reliable Social Media Platform in the Country award.
The awardees were based on a survey conducted by the Philippine Public Safety and Order Support Group with a total of 10,000 respondents randomly selected from various regions in Luzon and National Capital Region.
