Barbie, Thea together in GMA drama

Half Sisters lead stars Thea Tolentino and Barbie Forteza

MANILA, Philippines - Barbie Forteza and Thea Tolentino will star in the GMA 7’s upcoming afternoon suspense-drama series The Half Sisters.

It was not the first time that Thea and Barbie would work together. Both were part of Anna Karenina. Barbie will also be seen in the upcoming primetime series Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real, while Thea is in the primetime series Kambal Sirena.

Half Sisters is a complicated story of twins (Barbie as Diana and Thea as Ashley) fathered by two different men. “Twins kami ni Thea sa teleserye but we have a different father, meron po talagang case na nangyari, it was called Heteropaternal Superfecundation,” shared Barbie during a recent press set visit.

Superfecundation, according to Wikipedia, is the fertilization of two or more ova from the same cycle by sperm from separate acts of sexual intercourse. Heteropaternal Superfecundation occurs when two different males father fraternal twins. Though rare in human, cases have been documented.

“Kaya sa story ay galit sa akin si Ashley and her father played by Ryan Eigenmann, dahil alam nila na iba ang tatay ko, ” said Barbie.

Thea, on the other hand, is thankful for this big project after doing Pyra: Ang Babaeng Apoy in 2013, “Salamat sa GMA at di ako nawawalan ng project and regarding sa mga roles, I’m willing naman to accept either bida or kontrabida.” Despite not having ample experience in drama, it was obvious that Thea has a flair for acting and she annoyed televiewers by playing kontravida in Anna Karenina. At the end of the day, it’s clear that Thea always gives justice to any given role.

Thea and Barbie’s leading men are Derrick Monsterio and Andre Paras. The series also boasts of a star-studded powerhouse that includes Jean Garcia, Jomari Yllana, Ryan Eigenmann, Mel Martinez, JC Tiuseco, Pinky Amador and Carlo Gonzales.

Will the characters of Barbie and Thea prove in the end that blood is thicker than water? Find out in Half Sisters, directed by Mark Reyes and premiering on June 9 on GMA 7’s Afternoon Prime.
