Joey G. enjoys being solo

MANILA, Philippines - Side A lead vocalist Joey Generoso, while still officially a member of the popular group, has been vocal about his feeling of high performing on his own.

He is actually pursuing a solo career on the side, having released a couple of years back his debut solo album Stand under Warner Music.

“Iba ang pakiramdam kapag mag-isa ka. It’s back to basics, just me and my guitar. It’s something that I love doing,” shared the veteran singer when he was recently presented as top attraction of bar and restaurant The Crowd for this month.

Last May 15, Joey G. already showed his drawing power at the bar situated in Mandaluyong City. He will again be seen performing on May 29.

When asked by a reporter if he’s a bit insecure that so many male singers have come into the fold, he confidently replied, “Wala na ako sa stage na iyon. I’m too old for that. Nagsimula naman ako as a solo act so this is my way of coming full circle sa career ko.”

Stand-up comedian and entertainment manager Richard Villanueva said of the prized act, “Every time Joey performs here, it’s always standing-room at punong-puno kami.”

Joey G.’s act is supplanted by female saxophonist Alpha, while a host of good-recall artists is lined-up along. Paolo Santos showcases his repertoire on May 21 and 28. Previous performers included  Jay R and Haydee Manosca who gained fame after winning It’s Showtime’s Stars on 45 contest.

So much buzz The Crowd (located  at the second floor of Madison Square, Pioneer St.) is creating it also launched its Search for the Crowd Idol with P150,000 worth of prizes at stake.

Even Dental World Manila chose to have The Crowd as the perfect venue to hold the formal signing of its first two endorsers — Philippine-based with foreign blood acts Jeff James and Anna Rabtsun.

The Hawaii-born James and Russian Rabtsun were picked by Dr. Malony Santos to serve as endorsers for the consolidated three dental centers located at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City, Mall of Asia and Glorietta, Makati.

James, of Filipino descent, is a one-man band covering songs from Bamboo’s Masaya to Michael Jackson’s classics, while Rabtsun became a YouTube sensation with her version of Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko which she sang with David DiMuzio. She is married to a Filipino guy and works as a full-time model.

“I’m here to trace my roots, discover the Philippines,” said James who is also the mixing engineer of Rockman Studio in Pasig City.

Meanwhile, another company, Morgan Motor Philippines, is eyeing celebrity endorsers as it invited a host of them during the official opening of its first showroom earlier this month. The facility, situated in Greenhills along EDSA, has an area of 160-sq. meter and displays the British-made Morgan in both two-seater and four-seater models.

“Car enthusiasts in the showbiz world should find the facility an extraordinary experience and so we invite them to come in,” expressed Morgan Say, the young executive holding the steering wheel of the White Knight Automobiles, Inc. which is the official dealer of the classic looking and hand-made Morgan cars. It is by coincidence that his name is also Morgan.

Jojo Alejar is a close friend of the Say family and he attended a previous gathering for Morgan cars held at a high-end venue in Makati.
