Rachelle Ann: ‘Miss Saigon’ role a ‘gift’ for her 10th year in showbiz

MANILA, Philippines- Rachelle Ann Go said that she considers being part of “Miss Saigon” as a “gift” for her 10th year in the entertainment industry.

Rachelle Ann admits that at the beginning, all she ever wanted was to have an album and do a solo concert.

“‘Yon pala higit pa doon ang tinanggap kong blessings,” she said in an interview Wednesday afternoon, February 12. “Kumbaga sa sampung taon nagawa ko na lahat ng gusto ko."

She said that being picked to be part of a musical abroad still seems a dream for her. 

“Now doing a big musical abroad, hindi ko po pinangarap ito, parang panaginip na, e. Kumbaga na-surprise na lang ako dito and parang regalo na po sa akin ito,” she said.

The Kapuso singer will play the role of Gigi, which had been portrayed by Isay Alvarez, who is among the original cast of Miss Saigon, along with Lea Salonga.

Rachelle Ann's role is a bit sexy, which made her hesitate at first. But after praying for it and asking some key people in her life, Rachelle eventually took the role.

She’s also thankful that her home network GMA, and her family is very supportive of her decision.

“My family is very supportive of me sa lahat ng ginagawa ko,” she said. “And I’m sure maho-homesick ako for the first few months. But they’ll go there to visit me and watch the show."

“So naiintindihan naman nila ‘yong trabaho ko and sabi ko nga kanina, siguro ang purpose nito is for me to grow as a person and as an artist,” she added.

Since she’s already in London, a lot of people are wondering if she’s considering an international career like with what happened with Lea, who played the role of Kim.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happened after that,” she replied after a short pause. “I just want to focus in Miss Saigon, sa role ko do’n," she added.

“ Siguro after no’n, kapag ando’n na ako at nag-run na ‘yon, do’n ko makikita at mararamdaman kung saan ‘yong next step na dapat ko tahakin. So sa ngayon hindi ko pa alam.”

Rachelle may  leave by the end of February, which is earlier than she expected. This was due to the Miss Saigon management’s decision to introduce her character Gigi and Kim in a benefit concert, which will happen on March 2.

Though she’ll be gone for more than a year, Rachelle hopes that “‘yong mga taong sumusuporta sa akin hindi rin ako makalimutan.”
