Philpop now open for 2014 entries

MANILA, Philippines - Both budding and experienced song writers are being tapped again as Philpop is now accepting entries for 2014.

After the phenomenal success of their second year, the organization’s executive director Ryan Cayabyab hopes that for this year, a lot more composers will be encouraged to join.

“Ang Phil Pop Music Foundation, ang gusto talaga namin mangyari ay to push Filipino music in the foreground para ang tatangkilikin muna natin ay original Filipino music,” he said in an interview Friday afternoon, Nov. 15.

The recent entries and grand song winner of Philpop got  huge support and following from the Filipino audience. Take for instance the winner song “Dati,” performed by Sam Concepcion and Tippy Dos Santos, and Quest, which reached 12 million hits on YouTube alone.

This was different from the first year of the competition where Maestro Cayabyab noticed that even though the songs are great, the Filipino audience didn’t patronized them that much.

This is the reason why for the second year he advised the judges that “kung puwede pumili sila ng kanta na hindi lang mananalo kundi magiging hit din. Kasi it has been a problem sa ating song competitions na anng nananalo ay hindi pinapansin ng publiko.”

The competition is open for all Filipino amateur or professional song writers, of all ages, but in case of minors, a parental consent is required. Filipinos who are citizens of a different country, as long as they’re of Filipino descent, are as well encouraged to join.

Aspirants can submit up to two entries, and they should make sure that these entries are all original and have not yet been produced in any way. For more of the guidelines of the competition, they can visit www.philpop.com.ph

Entries could be submitted through their website until Feb. 28, 2014.
