MANILA, Philippines- Christian Bautista will represent Philippines at the upcoming ASEAN-Japan Music Festival- Music for Healing After the Earthquake.
This is an effort by the Japanese government for thanking all the ASEAN countries that helped them get back on their feet after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.
Christian said he was chosen by the Japanese embassy here in the Philippines to represent the country on the upcoming event.
“I was so thankful that I was chosen,†he said in an interview Wednesday afternoon, November 13. “The Japanese embassy called us up and then they wanted us to perform there. It’s a big honor. Sabi nga ng iba is that a competition, it’s a representation, so natuwa naman ako.â€
He’ll leave the country on November 26, and said that he’ll perform two of his hit singles namely “The Way You Look at Me†and “Invincible.â€
But the Kapuso singer-actor says he will not only represent Philippines as a country who helped Japan but also a country that needs help after typhoon Yolanda brought havoc in the Visayas region.
“I’ll go there to represent the country to ask more help and relate our situation,†he relates. “The world is responding naman na already, so I want to ask for more.
“This ASEAN thing, it’s not just gonna be about the performance na you know, it’s now gonna be an appeal for me. So now we’re also experiencing something na napakatindi rin and it’s now my way of asking for their help also.â€
Christian has also done his part in the relief operations as he donated some of his personal money to different organizations like World Vision, Operation Blessing and CBN Asia.
As other countries’ help continues to come in, and the Filipinos’ efforts to help out their countrymen, Christian is optimistic that Philippines will be able to surpass this tragedy.
“Naniniwala rin ako na after a few years tayo rin ay makakabangon dito at baka tayo naman ang makatulong sa iba,†he said with a smile.
