Macbeth screening at SM Aura Cinema slated

MANILA, Philippines - National Theatre Live, in association with the British Embassy in Manila and SM Aura Premier Cinema, will be holding a special screening of William Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth on Oct. 22, 6 p.m. at the SM Aura Premier Cinema 2.

A first in Philippine entertainment, this brings to SM Aura Premier’s state-of-the-art cinemas, the National Theater Live’s stage production of Shakespeare’s immortal play.  

The National Theatre Live is an initiative by the National Theatre to broadcast live performances onto cinema screens around the world. Since its first season, which began in June 2009 with the acclaimed production of Phédre starring Helen Mirren, over 1.75 million people have now experienced the work of National Theatre Live in cinemas worldwide. 

Macbeth is a production of the prestigious Manchester International Festival. It stars Kenneth Branagh, (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, My Week With Marilyn, Hamlet) in his first Shakespeare performance in over a decade as Macbeth, and Alex Kingston (Doctor Who, ER) as Lady Macbeth, and are well-supported in their roles by others who have worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company previously.

Directed by Rob Ashford and Kenneth, the new production of Shakespeare’s tragic tale of ambition and treachery unfolds within the walls of an intimate deconsecrated Manchester church.

The special screening is a part of the British Embassy’s This is GREAT Britain campaign, which brings Shakespeare from the National Theatre in London to the Philippines.

As part of the British Embassy’s five-month This is Great Britain festival celebrating all that is best about Great Britain and its partnership with the Philippines, the embassy in partnership with SM Cinema, the British Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines and the British Alumni Association is proud to welcome the world renowned National Theatre from its home on London’s south bank to the Philippines for the first time. 
The event also forms one of the main pillars in the UK-Philippines Friendship Week.
Ticket prices are on sale at P400 each, and may be purchased through SM Tickets. Numbers are restricted.  Please be seated no later than 6:45 p.m.
