MANILA, Philippines - “It’s a lot of swerte and connections.”

Thus said Rhian Ramos when asked how she was chosen to star in the music video of the song “Fall Asleep” by American Christian band Jars of Clay.

The “Fall Asleep” video, which debut on September 15, has already gotten both local and international press from publications such as USA Today.

According to the Kapuso actress, it was her friend Luis Tabuena who initiated contact with Jars of Clay early this year.

“Nung nalaman ng kaibigan ko — si Luigi Tabuena, director siya — na may concert sila sa Philippines ng Holy Week, nag-propose siya ng music video para nga sa song nila na ‘Fall Asleep.’ In-email niya sa banda, nagustuhan ng banda. Pumayag sila na pagdating nila dito, pagkatapos ng concert, gagawa sila ng music video,” Rhian told philstar.com and other members of the entertainment media on Friday, Sept. 20.

And since she is Tabuena’s friend, Rhian was naturally tapped to be featured on the music video.

“I’m really thankful for all the support the song is getting. The song deserves it. It’s a really, really nice song,” Rhian said.

The “Fall Asleep” music video was shot entirely in the Philippines with an all-Filipino crew.

Breaking the stereotype

“It just goes to show kung ano yung kaya rin nating mga Pinoy,” Rhian ehthused.

Is Rhian hoping to get noticed internationally because of the music video? The Kapuso actress said that while every artist hopes to expand their audience, she would “rather have people know that the video is Filipino-made.”

“I’d want every to know that so it would bring more work to the control, in terms of filmmaking, at least,” she explained.

“Maybe, in the future, if people come here to shoot, more of the artists would get work also, including me na rin also. So it would all be positive, whether or not I get noticed,” Rhian added.

Rhian talked to the press during the launch of the Toyota Vios Cup, which will be held at the Clark International Speedway on Oct. 12. The 22-year-old actress will join Fabio Ide, Aljur Abrenica and Phoemela Barranda as the celebrity participants of this year’s Vios Cup.

“Nung una, aaminin ko, kinabahan ako. But now that I’ve done a bit of training, hindi na,” Rhian said.

She added, “I want to prove the stereotype wrong, kasi minsan iniisip ng tao na porke’t babae hindi marunong mag-drive. Hindi yun totoo!”
