MANILA, Philippines – Swaying his head while his single is being played, JC Regino, son of April Boy Regino, is undeniably in love with music.

This maybe the thing that songwriter Vehnee Saturno saw in JC when he came across the 23-year-old musician’s video on YouTube, while looking for the perfect artist to sing his composition "Wasak Ang Puso Ko."

“I think mga three or four singers ang tinry [try] namin sa studio, pero parang hindi kami ganoon ka-happy pa rin,” the composer relates.

So they immediately contacted JC through his mom Madeleine.

JC is supposed to leave already to work in a bank based in the US. Yet, who would turn down a renowned songwriter?

So when JC heard the music and agreed to work with Saturno, they went to MCA and closed a deal with them. This deal was announced formally Thursday, Sept. 19, when JC signed a three-year contract with the recording company.

This would be JC’s first solo album. It could be recalled that in 2011, JC released an album together with his dad April Boy, under Viva Records.

He admits that there’s fear on how the people will accept his music. Yet, he chooses to be hopeful, “kapag walang kaba, walang excitement,” he said with a laugh.

His inclination to music is not a surprise since his dad has been one of the popular novelty singers of the 90s.

Given this fact, it wouldn’t be a surprise as well if he’ll be compared with his dad.

With JC’s K-Pop inspired looks, sense of humor, and of course talent Vehnee believes that he has the taste that Pinoys are looking for in a singer.

“Ang Pilipino laging naghahanap ng ganyang tunog,” he comments.

“Ako naman nakatutok ako doon sa isang situation na dapat lasang Pinoy pa rin.

“Sabi ko nga, even ang daming foreign songs na dumadating, pinapakinggan natin, mayroon pa ring certain sound na hinahanap ang Filipino market na hindi ko iniiwanan.”
