It is time for the rockers to take over the Big Dome once again. Fall Out Boy, one of the most successful rock bands of recent times, will be back in town for a show at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City on Aug. 8.
This is the famous group’s third visit and fourth show in the country. If I remember right, response to its first concert here on Sept. 21, 2007 was so phenomenal that the band members just had to do another show the next day. Their last visit here was in Feb. 13, 2009 and that too was a success.
I have a feeling that their show on Aug. 8 presented by MMI and Ovation Productions will be no different. For one, Fall Out Boy has a lot of hit songs and you know how we Pinoys just adore hearing the hits we like performed live. In this case, I am hopeful that the band will do Sugar We’re Going Down, Dance Dance, This Aint A Scene, It’s An Arms Race, Thnks fr th Mmrs, I Don’t Care and other biggies from their previous albums. These were the songs that established their identity as young, cool and lots of fun.
Then this tour is named the Fall Out Boy: Save Rock And Roll Tour. That means, it is part of the promo support for the band’s latest album Save Rock And Roll, which I am happy to say is another big seller. It is their first release in four years and the follow-up to Folie A Deux. It made No. 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 list and also in other countries.
Save Rock And Roll is the most complex album to emerge from Fall Out Boy. It has songs and arrangements that fuse elements of R&B, folk pop, club, dance, hip-hop, emo and their early punk sound. It is a great proof of the band’s developing musicality and industry clout. They have big names like Elton John and Courtney Love as guests in the album.
So you can be sure that you will definitely get to watch FOB perform My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light ‘Em Up) live, which is really one great song. Maybe also the melodic Alone Together or the lovely ballad Just One Yesterday all done by vocalist Patrick Stump, who combines R&B sweetness with arena power, plus bassist Pete Wentz, who also writes the band’s incredible, emo-filled rockers, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley. If they sound live just like they do in the CD, then you can count on one fantastic rock concert.
