Fil-Am Broadway stars at NY’s A-list arts venue

Two of the Great White Way’s brightest and (nicest!) Fil-Am actors, Adam Jacobs and Ali Ewoldt, will mount a post-Valentine concert on Feb. 23 at one of New York City’s most prestigious performing arts venues, The Town Hall.

Called A Heart Full of Love, the concert will showcase Adam and Ali singing an array of musical theater favorites including selections from Les Misérables, West Side Story and The Lion King, as well as contemporary pop songs, kundiman (traditional Filipino love songs), and an exciting repertoire of new works by today’s rising theater composers and writers.

Adam and Ali are best known for playing the revolutionary student Marius and Cosette, respectively, from 2006 to 2008 in the return engagement on Broadway of Cameron Mackintosh’s smash musical Les Miserables. 

Adam is also known for playing Simba in the Broadway production and on the national tour of another hit musical, The Lion King, while Ali is in the cast of West Side Story and Disney’s Alladin.

“Adam and Ali are actually best buddies reuniting for a cause,” said Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent who filed this report. “The last time they performed together on stage was at a tribute show for musical theater legend Stephen Sondheim at Lincoln Center some two years ago.”

Edmund quoted Adam as saying, “We hope to show a different side of ourselves in this concert, which we hope people will love and enjoy. Ali and I are so excited to be reunited and perform for the New York City crowd.”

Conceived by Victor Lirio (Suites by Songheim, Two Rooms), A Heart Full of Love will be megged by Adam Fitzgerald (Friends and Relations, Killing Women) with musical direction by David Dabbon (Secondary Impact, She Loves Me).

Proceeds from the concert will go to The Outstanding Filipino Americans in New York (TOFA-NY) Awards, an annual ceremony that recognizes exemplary Filipino-Americans in the New York Tri-State held in October; and to Mindoro Healthcare Consulting’s current research to find a cure for multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.

Elton Lugay of TOFA-NY and Jona Jane Tajonera of Mindoro Healthcare Consulting, LLC, together with media partners GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and The Filipino Reporter are producing the concert.

Consul Bong Cariño said the Philippine Consulate General in New York has endorsed the concert to promote excellent Fil-Am talents.

Ex-lovers 'snub' each other at Belo event
