Luz Valdez in the ’60s

Today’s televiewers and moviegoers know Luz Valdez as a sympathetic and loving grandmother, mother, aunt or friend. Still beautiful and ever soft-spoken, Luz is perfect for such character roles.

But in the ’60s, Luz was one of LVN’s contract artists, launched in Chinita and cast in dramas, comedies and musicals. Her contemporaries included Perla Bautista, Marita Zobel, Chona Sandoval, Jojo Sandoval, Bernard Bonnin and Robert Campos.

Luz and Marita played leading ladies to Robert in Malditong Banal (1961), where the actor played a dual role, identical twins with contrasting characters.

Romance developed between Luz and Robert, which led to the altar. But sadly, the marriage ended in separation. They have two children. — RKC
