Just when you think you have already seen Mickey Mouse and his friends from the Disney kingdom in everything, you get this piece of news announcing that the famous Mouse will be back in another show. Titled Disney Live! Mickey’s Rockin’ Road Show, this entirely new stage adventure, will be at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City from Sept. 5 to 15 and as usual, the kids and their adult companions will make sure they are around to enjoy this treat.
A Disney show never fails to entertain and this one promises to be no different. But it is still good for consumers to know what they will be getting. Rockin’ Road Show is about Mickey Mouse who has now joined the search-for-talent business. He is in search of new acts and is bringing along some friends to help him find those potential stars. Joining Mickey are Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck and they will take everybody on a rollicking road trip in Mickey’s new fantastical bus.
This is a special bus with magic powers. Through the use of a giant video screen and multiple scenic projection panels, it flies and swims underwater and can go into the desert, the mountains and even into little villages. It is while on this trip that Mickey will introduce his other guests or I should say the new acts. These are Cinderella with her wicked but very funny stepsisters; Winnie the Pooh’s friend, the lovable, jumping addicted Tigger; astronaut Buzz Lightyear, cowboy Woody and cowgirl Jessie from the Toy Story and many others, who will audition for Mickey’s talent search with often funny results.
Mickey’s Rockin’ Road Show is presented by Vivre Fort Entertainment. Tickets are available at TicketNet outlets. For details, you may visit www.disneylive.com.phil or call Vivre Fort at 470-6956 or go to the Araneta box office.
Now if you are among those who are looking for something to watch other than Mickey Mouse or a rock concert, which we seem to be getting a lot of these days, here are some really interesting suggestions.
The Wizard of Oz, presented by the Repertory Philippines Children’s Theater and now playing until December at the Onstage Theater in, Greenbelt 1, Makati City. Warning. This is not the classic MGM musical adapted for the stage. So you will not be hearing Somewhere Over the Rainbow in the show. Neither is it The Wiz, although both musicals were based on the same book. So you will not be hearing Home. But the story written by L. Frank Baum has always been a charming read for several decades now, so I do not see any reason why this version will be any different.
Make sure you bring the kiddies to watch The Wizard Of Oz and meet such well-loved characters as the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, the girl Dorothy and for some scary screams, the Wicked Witch of the West. Directed by Rep Children’s Theater founder Joy Virata, the show stars Cara Barredo and Giannina Ocampo as Dorothy.
Potted Potter, The Unauthorized Harry Experience: A Parody by Dan & Jeff opens on Aug. 28 and runs until Sept. 2 at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater at the RCBC Plaza in Makati. This is for anybody who has ever loved or hated the Harry Potter books. The show condenses all seven volumes of the J.K. Rowling story. So if you love the Harry Potter series then you will have fun watching all those familiar events and characters come to life again on stage. But if you hate Harry and friends, now is your chance to have a good laugh over them.
Cleverly written by Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, Potted Potter stars Jesse Briton and Gary Trainor. The two talented guys play all your favorite characters, from boy wizard Harry to Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and the august professor Dumbledore. There are lots of songs and hilarious moments. You will also see a fire-breathing dragon, a real-life game of Quidditch and lots of Hogwarts magic. Expect a truly magical experience that both kids and adults will enjoy.
