Artes 2012: Art imitates life

Oscar Wilde notably wrote in his essay titled The Decay of Lying dating 1889 that “Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.” We can all certainly argue the opposite to be true as well. This is the case for Artes 2012, where acclaimed painter Dominic Rubio presented his works to a distinguished crowd at the Podium in Pasig earlier this month. Rubio’s inspiration was born from the collaboration between the artist and the designer Frederick Peralta.

Notably, all of Frederick’s friends and colleagues in the fashion industry came together and offered their time and support for the event such as Pitoy Moreno, Ben Farrales, Michael Carandang, Mayor Len Alonte, Jack and Abby Teotico, Kay Rodriguez and her glam team, Jun Cabardo, Gerry Sunga and Jorge for the exquisite jaw-dropping couture jewelry, Teddy Manuel floral designs, Coro Ilustrado for their magnificent gift of music that afternoon and lastly but far from the least, Robbie Carmona and his Saga Events team that put the gala together with such finesse and artistic passion.

It was a wonderful affair that I had the pleasure of hosting wherein Frederick presented the iconic pieces from his past collections that are now forever immortalized on the canvas by Dominic. The crowd was elated to have had the opportunity to partake of some amazing artworks wherein 15 framed Rubio sketches were raffled off. Both Dominic and Frederick also auctioned of a barong both signed as well as hand painted art on each panel to benefit the charitable organization Operation Smile. Bravo to artists such as Frederick and Dominic who continue to inspire and feed off each other’s creative forces to come up with works of art that can be appreciated by fashion and art lovers alike.
