MANILA, Philippines - It’s been said that in all those talent contests conducted by GMA 7 the peg for the next big leading man is Richard Gutierrez. It figures that Richard has it all: Looks, talent, appeal and dedication.
To date “the next Chard” has yet to be discovered. No one but no one measures up to the actor’s standards. But then it’s tough finding all those traits in one person, which makes Chard towers over his contemporaries. He’s one of a kind.
His current GMA telenovela, Makapiling Kang Muli, is becoming more exciting as the tale of love and hate, forgiveness and revenge unfolds. Directed by Ricky Davao, the telenovela also stars Carla Abellana, Sarah Lahbati, Robert Arevalo, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Phillip Salvador and Gloria Romero. Chard recalls that Tita Glo, the most regal movie queen ever, played his lola years back in Let the Love Begin, GMA’s biggest hit to date, with Angel Locsin as leading lady.
The talk on the set of Makapiling is long after the camera has stopped grinding, the love scene between Chard and Sarah lingers on and on and on.
Aside from being an actor, Chard is also the prized talent of GMA News and Public Affairs, host of its programs on environment. His current assignment is Pinoy Adventures, where Chard goes where the action is. He is no armchair adventurer, risking life and limbs in the name of realism.
No wonder then that his co-workers love Chard, whose shows gave the Kapuso network national and international recognitions. The actor-host was named environmental hero.
Chard looks forward to more challenges in the seasons to come as an actor and as a host.
Meantime, the search for “the next Chard” continues. He’s flattered by it all and wishes newcomers in showbiz all the best. As earlier noted, Chard is one of a kind.
