MANILA, Philippines - GMA Network senior vice president for News and Public Affairs Marissa Flores (photo) is this year’s awardee in the Media, Advertising, PR, Entertainment, Special Events and Sports category of the CEO EXCEL (Communication Excellence in Organization) Awards given by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines.
Flores is credited for building the GMA Public Affairs from scratch in the ’80s and in setting new directions for GMA News in the ’90s up to the present.
Today, GMA News and Public Affairs, as the public knows it — is the leading, most-awarded and most credible broadcast organization in the country, a feat that Flores has spearheaded but she would quickly acknowledge as team effort.
It is the only Philippine broadcast organization that has won not just one, but two, George Foster Peabody Awards — considered as one of the most prestigious international awards for broadcast journalism.
Under Flores’ watch, GMA News and Public Affairs has lived up to its promise — “Walang kinikilingan. Walang pinoprotektahan. Walang kasinungalingan. Serbisyong Totoo lamang.”
