MANILA, Philippines - On May 22, Knowledge Channel joins the rest of the world in celebrating The International Day for Biological Diversity or World Biodiversity Day. This date has been appointed by the United Nations to increase awareness and concern on the role of healthy biodiversity to all living organisms and the world.
To mark the event, Knowledge Channel will air the following programs for a week. Agusan Marsh Diaries, a travelogue by film director Jerrold Tarog and hosted by Gaby dela Merced and Dr. Jurgenne Primavera on the Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary. Also on the list is Archie Alemania’s I Got It. The edutainment magazine program was produced by nine Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, in cooperation with the Goethe-Institute and UNESCO.
The three-episode program, Marine Biodiversity covers the basic concepts of the food web, the goods and services that marine biodiversity provides to man and ways in which man can preserve the diversity without sacrificing the latter’s economic worth. Meanwhile Bale: Ang Tradisyunal na Bahay ng Ifugaw features the Ifugao’s trational dwelling place, the Bale, and how it is a manifestation of the great nexus of the mountain communities to its environment. The program, hosted by Edric Calma, also highlights the biodiversity in the area and how the Ifugaos have respected and kept them over the years.
