MANILA, Philippines - Are you ready for the biggest student fashion design competition, the Lee National Denim Day?
Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup and her compatriots — 12 select young designers from some of the country’s best schools — will set the stage for the Lee National Denim Day student design competition to be held at the Atrium of SM Mall of Asia tomorrow, the fifth day of the ongoing Philippine Fashion Week.
Chosen from more than 100 entries from all over the country, the 12 students represent what Lee ultimately stands for — individuality, artistic freedom and embracing your life’s passions.
They will share their collections, which were inspired by six dynamic cities — an offshoot of Lee’s current worldwide campaign, “The City is Mine.” The campaign aims to encourage everyone to explore, enjoy, and experience everything their city has to offer and liberate and nurture their passions in the process. (The campaign also inspired Lee’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection, “Urban Riders.”)
In preparation for the show/competition, the student designers received ample advice from some of the best in the industry, among them, fashion show director Robby Carmona. “It’s a given that their designs must be directional; they must design with a vision and purpose,” Carmona said. “But one thing they should also learn is showmanship.”
Also rockin’ the runway of Lee are Anton del Rosario of Philippine Azkals and Michele Gavagan, Miss Earth Philippines Fire 2011. They were chosen to represent the spirit of excellence, and for making the city their own stage.
