MANILA, Philippines - Atlantis Productions, which recently staged the repeat of the hit musical Next To Normal, ends its 2011 season with the staging of the Broadway Musical Disney’s The Little Mermaid. It will run from Nov. 18 to Dec. 11 at the Meralco Theater.
Based on one of the most beloved Disney films of all time and the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, The Little Mermaid is the sparkling new Disney musical that has made a big splash on Broadway. Some of Disney’s most popular songs are featured in show — including Part of Your World, Kiss the Girl and the Academy Award-winning Best Original Song, Under the Sea — by the renowned songwriting team of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The stage adaptation also features 10 new songs by Menken and Glenn Slater, plus a book by Tony-winning playwright Doug Wright. It will be directed by Bobby Garcia and Chari Arespacochaga.
Atlantis Productions has gathered a stellar cast for the first international production of the classical Disney musical. Leading the cast as Ariel is Rachelle Ann Go. She appears on GMA 7’s Party Pilipinas and is managed by Viva Entertainment.
Erik Santos will make his professional musical theater stage debut as Prince in The Little Mermaid. He is a mainstay of ASAP Rocks.
Jinky Llamanzares who thrilled audiences abroad in Miss Saigon and The Who’s Tommy, and local audiences in Urinetown and Legally Blonde, plays the villainous Ursula who sets out to steal Ariel’s magical voice.
OJ Mariano plays the servant crab Sebastian who also serves as Ariel’s guardian. He gets to sing the show-stopping Under the Sea.
Calvin Millado, who recently earned praise as Kevin in In the Heights, plays King Triton, son of Poseidon, father of Ariel, and ruler of the underwater world.
Also in the cast are Lee Viloria as Flounder, Enrique Canoy as Scuttle, Felix Rivera as Flotsam, Jamie Barcelon as Jetsam, Raymond Concepcion as Grimsby and Juliene Mendoza as Chef Louis.
The Little Mermaid has choreography by Cecile Martinez, set design by Lex Marcos, costume design by Erik Pineda, lighting design by Jay Aranda, puppetry design and execution by Liz and Benny Batoctoy and Sam Fuentes, projection design by GA Fallarme, musical direction by Ceejay Javier, vocal coaching by ManMan Angsico and production management by Liza Camus.
