Drian Francisco back in ring vs. ALA's Michael Domingo

MANILA, Philippines - After a long while, two Filipino ring warriors who are both in their prime will battle to prove which one truly deserves to be named as one of the country’s top bets for a world title. Today, former WBA interim super flyweight champion Drian Francisco (20-1-1, 16 KOs) of Touch Gloves Gym will lock horns with Michael Domingo (41-15-2, 19 KOs) of the ALA stable.

Francisco appeared to be on his way to stardom after winning the WBA interim super flyweight championship. He was undefeated and a couple of big names in his list of victims. When he traveled to Thailand to defend his title against lightly-regarded Tepparith Singwancha, he thought the fight was going to be easy. To his surprise, the Thai fought gallantly and wrestled the title away. After his first career loss, Francisco and his team decided that it would be best to move to a higher weight division as the fighter was having a hard time getting to 115 pounds.

Fighters coming of a loss usually take on easier opponents to get their groove back but Francisco is not interested in doing that. He is going straight to one of the country’s best bantamweights in Domingo.

Nicknamed Bruce Lee, Domingo does not have a fight record that will scare anyone. He has 15 losses and he has a dismal knockout percentage. However, he suffered most of these losses very early in his career. Being a part of Cebu’s ALA Gym gave life to Domingo’s then fluttering career. Domingo got his chance at a title eliminator but he lost via unanimous decision to South Africa’s Vusi Malinga but he knows that a win over the popular Francisco will get him closer to a title shot.

This should be a very exciting fight as these two warriors will leave everything inside the ring. The winner of this fight will move on to bigger things, maybe even to a world title shot in the near future while the loser will be left pondering where his career will head to next.

Pinoy Warriors: Francisco versus Domingo will be held at the Makati Coliseum today and will be aired on Solar Sports on Sept. 25 at 3 p.m., Sky Cable on Ch. 70, Destiny on Ch. 35 and Cablelink on Ch. 31.
